Nick Haney fought to increase funding to ensure first responders were adequately funded and equipped with the tools and resources needed to keep families safe. As a firefighter paramedic, he brought firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the importance of proactive, responsive leadership in public safety. He’s consistently made public safety a top priority, helping ensure Surprise remained safe and family-friendly.
Since taking office:

Keeping up with Growth
Surprise is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, with its population more than quadrupling over the past twenty years. Nick ran for office because he saw that rapid growth often outpaced infrastructure and services. Nick Haney focused on smart, responsible policies that helped the city catch up, while continuing to invest in public safety, streets, and critical infrastructure to protect residents’ quality of life. Voters approved the 163rd Avenue Expansion Project through a bond, and Haney worked to ensure the city delivered on that promise. The project was completed and included:

Adding three travel lanes in each direction between Grand Avenue and Happy Valley Road

Nick Haney worked collaboratively with leaders in the City of Peoria to reach an agreement that delivered major regional benefits, including:

Improving connectivity for residents with a new east–west alternative to Happy Valley Road

Increasing emergency response efficiency, including enhanced mutual aid between cities

Investing in Roads & Safety
Nick Haney understood that strong transportation systems are essential for economic growth, reduced congestion, and fast emergency response times. As a member of the MAG Transportation Policy Committee, he successfully advocated to bring significant regional investments back to our city.
Within a year of taking office, we secured $4.5 million dollars for interim improvements for the Loop 303 and US 60 Corridor.
Advocated and secured over 3 million dollars of funding for design of the Loop 303 and 155th Traffic interchange to help expedite the current timeline of the project.

Championing Local Business
As residential growth surged in District 1, Nick Haney worked to ensure economic development kept pace.
Haney supported policies that helped small businesses thrive and attracted high-wage employers, reduced red tape and unnecessary regulations that hindered business growth, and partnered with regional and local economic development organizations to prioritize job creation.
His record includes:

Cutting property taxes multiple years in a row—one of the largest tax reductions in city history—while increasing public safety funding

Advocating to cut the initial business licensing fee by 50%, lowering startup costs for entrepreneurs

Delivering Results
Nick Haney worked directly with private wireless providers and city staff to advance long-overdue improvements in cell service across District 1. Since taking office, more than five new cell towers were approved and began construction, significantly improving service throughout District 1.
